There is a strong emphasis in my work on Functional Pilates which is a style of Pilates that is accessible for everyone and helps us cope with the day to day demands of life whether it be gardening, cleaning, playing sports or with the grandkids. Functional Pilates has a purpose and everyday tasks should become easier through Pilates.
No specific skillsets are needed as Pilates will always meet you wherever you are on your journey towards better health and is suitable for all ages and abilities, whether your life is largely sedentary or you’re training for an Olympic medal, Pilates has your back!
My training, career and previous life as a professional ballet and contemporary dancer are undeniable throughout my work. This deep knowledge of movement enables me to help individuals from all walks of life to understand how to “access” movement within their bodies and to create within themselves a strong sense of confidence as they progress with their classes.
My own passion for Pilates was awakened after suffering a serious knee injury which forced me to retire from the stage. I retrained to become a Pilates Teacher with Body Control Pilates Association in 2001 and later a Master Trainer. A few years after this I qualified as a Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic trainer.
I’m a great believer in the concept that we don’t “grow old” – we “grow unfit!” I therefore put a spotlight in my lessons on better balance and strength in order to prevent falls and hold back age related deterioration.
I am also able to offer private specialist rehab lessons for spine, shoulder, hip or knee injuries, whether that be pre or post surgery These private lessons will enable you to get back to the fitness levels you expect and deserve.
Over the years I have had my own studios in Kingston and Walton on Thames and since 2021 teach in the New Forest and Online.
